Dive Site Guide
Scuba Diving in
Malvan.
A short drive north of Goa into Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district — clearer visibility, a quieter reef, and Sindhudurg Fort dropping straight into the sea beside your boat.
Why go further
Malvan sits about 120 kilometres north of the Goa border — roughly 3 hours by road from Baga. The extra distance buys you cleaner water, less boat traffic, and one of the more scenic dive sites on the west coast: Sindhudurg Fort, a 17th-century sea fortress built by Shivaji Maharaj, rises out of the water 15 minutes offshore.
The dive itself is a shore-boat combination — short boat ride from Malvan jetty out to the reef around Sindhudurg. Depths run 10–15 metres. Visibility on a good day clears past 15 metres — the best in this stretch of coast.
10–15 metres
Beginner-friendly depths, but with clearer water than any Goa site.
~15 minute ride
Short crossing from Malvan jetty out to the Sindhudurg reef.
Sindhudurg Fort
Walk the fort walls before or after your dive — a 17th-century Maratha sea fortress right on the reef.
Full day from Goa
~3 hours drive each way, ~4 hours on-site. Best done as a dedicated day-trip.
Who Malvan is for
Divers who want the clearest water in the region and don’t mind a full day for a single dive. Ideal if you’re already based in North Goa and want to add something distinct to your trip — and if history and sea forts appeal to you as much as reef.
